Meal Plan Options

The options are endless when it comes to meal plans! Enjoy three different dining halls which serve delicious meals on a rotating menu. Plans are available for on and off campus students, faculty and staff, and are administered by Mason Card.

Independence Plans: Unlimited access to dining halls 24 hours a day and one daily swipe in Simply-to-Go. Great for students living on-campus without a full kitchen.

Liberty Plans: Weekly number of dining hall swipes. Great for students living on-campus without a full kitchen.

Patriot Plans: Purchase a fixed number of meals to be used at dining halls. Great for students living on campus with a full kitchen or any off campus students.

Freedom Plans: Dollar-for-dollar purchasing power in all dining locations on a three campuses. Great for students living on campus with a full kitchen or any off campus students.

Byte Plans: Purchase a fixed number of meals to be used at dining halls.These plans are exclusively for faculty and staff.

Eligibility for meal plans is determined based on whether or not your housing has a full kitchen, and how many credit hours you have completed.

Notes:

  • Student meal plans offer tax-exempt dining and are billed to the student account which can be viewed on Patriot Web.
  • If a student meal plan is required and has not been selected, the Independence + $100 Bonus will be assigned by default. Meal plans are intended for personal use only and can be accessed with the Mason ID or the Iris Camera System. Mason IDs will be turned in to the Dean of Student’s Office if they are being used by other individuals.
  • For allergy, medical, religious, or dietary concerns, please contact the Mason Dining Registered Dietitian.

On-Campus Student w/o Full Kitchen

Freshmen and sophomores living on campus without a full kitchen in their living space are required to select an Independence Plan. All other students living on campus without a full kitchen in their living space are required to have either an Independence or Liberty Plan.

 

INDEPENDENCE MEAL PLANS

This plan offers healthy options and unlimited access into the dining halls 24 hours a day. Enjoy three guest meals per semester and Bonus Funds.These plans can be accessed using your Mason ID or the Iris Camera System. This plan is required for freshmen and sophomore.

  • Fairfax Campus: unlimited access in Ike’s, The Globe, and Southside
  • Simply-to-Go: one daily swipe (Mon-Fri; lunch only)
  • Arlington and SciTech Campuses: two daily swipes

Bonus Funds offer dollar-for-dollar tax-exempt purchasing power in all dining venues on all campuses. The funds can be increased by upgrading to the next $100 increment. Remaining balances from the fall semester will roll over to the spring semester. Bonus Funds must be used by the end of the spring semester. Bonus $100 is the default selection and will be assigned if no amount is specified.

How to Calculate Total Semester Price

To determine the total cost, add the base price of the plan to the chosen amount of Bonus Funds.

Ex: Independence Extended + $200 Bonus → $2,200 + $200 = $2,400

 

 

LIBERTY MEAL PLANS

Liberty Plans include a designated amount of meal swipes per week to be used at all dining halls plus a fixed amount of Bonus Funds that can be used at all dining venues on campuses. These two components together determine the total semester price.

 

Accepted Locations:

  • Ike’s, The Globe, and Southside
  • Simply-to-Go: one daily swipe (Mon-Fri; lunch only)
  • Arlington and SciTech campuses: two swipes a day

The weekly swipes reset on Saturday morning at 5am.

Students living on campus with a full kitchen in their residence (Liberty Square, Northern Neck, Potomac Heights, Rogers, Townhouses) are not required to purchase a meal plan, however, students still have the option to choose from all four meal plans.

Faculty and staff can purchase meal plans too! Purchase fixed swipes which are accepted in all three dining halls.

Accepted Location:

Byte Plans

  • 50 Meals: $330
  • 25 Meals: $175
  • 10 Meals: $75

Byte Meal Plans are valid until Aug 18, 2018.

 

Purchase Byte Plans

Byte Plans can be purchased two ways.

In person:

Visit Mason Card located in SUB I, Room 1203 with your Mason ID.

 

Online:

  1. Deposit a sufficient amount of funds into the Mason Money account to cover the cost of the plan via Mason Money Online.
  2. Email the Meal Plan Administrator requesting the Byte Plan to be added. Be sure to include your G Number.
  3. A confirmation email will be sent when the meal plan is ready to be accessed.

Q1.  Do Bonus Funds have to be purchased?

A.  Yes. A minimum of $100 is required per plan (including Independence and Patriot Plans). Liberty Plans have fixed amounts assigned to them. However, additional Bonus Funds are not required if a second Patriot Plan is purchased within the same semester.

Note: The average student selects $300 of Bonus Funds.

 

Q2.  How do I access my meal plan?

A.  The Mason ID and the Iris Camera System.

 

Q3.  When will I receive my rollover funds?

A. Rollover funds from Bonus Funds and Freedom Plans from the fall semester will be available for spring semester. However, they do not roll over from spring to fall semesters.

 

Q4. Why aren’t Liberty Plans an option for freshmen and sophomores?

A.  The university feels that the Independence Plans are instrumental in acclimating freshmen and sophomores to campus life. Not only will it enhance community living, but it will also ensure healthy dining choices are available at every meal.

 

Q5.  Are graduate students required to have a meal plan?

A.   Yes, graduate students living in areas without full kitchens are required to select one of the Liberty or Independence Plans.

 

Q6. What are the areas with full kitchens?

A.  Liberty Square | Northern Neck | Potomac Heights | Rogers | Townhouses

 

Q6. Where can I eat with my meal plan if I have a dietary restriction?

A. The Mason Dining Registered Dietitian is a free resource for all students. Students may meet with the dietitian to help navigate the dining venues on campus based on specific dietary needs.
